Dillard BBQ & Bluegrass Festival

Planning on running up to Dillard tomorrow to check out the BBQ competition and Bluegrass music. I had hoped to set up a booth to sell sauce, but because of my surgery week before last and just starting back to walking today…it just wasn’t possible. I am hoping to look at a few of the competitors and see what all is going on. Also looking at what styles of grills people use because I AM VERY SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING PURCHASING A NICE GRILL for both competition and to use for my festivals that I cook at. RISE OF APES IS GREAT

I know this isn’t food related, but let me just say the new apes movie is very good. My wife and I almost left early in the movie because she is a big animal lover and didn’t think she would be able to handle it all. As it turned out, the movie was very well done and watch for some old lines from other movies…I laughed out loud at those. Make sure to pay attention to the final scenes and watch the begining of the credits to get an understanding of what’s to come. Everyone in our theater jumped up and started out. Most had no clue that you were getting a clue as to how things will progress forward. THE ONE THING I HATED ABOUT THE WAHLBERG POA was the ending. It could not be reconciled except through possibly an alternate universe. The way they ended it didn’t even allow for time travel forward or backward. It was just crazy. THIS ENDING ALLOWS FOR PROGRESSION TOWARD AN APE WORLD that we might be able to visit in the future say if we time traveled from a time before this current movie. A BIG THUMBS UP!!!

GREAT WEEKEND IN MACON

Well, we had a great weekend at the GON Outdoor Blast. Since I was one of only a couple of food vendors, we had the taste buds all to ourselves. It was great to get to meet a different clientele group. I got several online orders and a few wholesale customer inquiries. It is always great to visit Macon because that means that I get to eat some AMAZING chili dogs from NuWay Weiners. I’m not sure whether or not they have taken the place of DoDo’s Pool Hall (Milledgeville, GA) chili dogs as my “World’s Best.” Needless to say, I had to hit a little Pepcid because I just had to have a half a dozen or so. I also found a great competition grill that I may end up buying from Bubba’s Grills (This year’s Memphis in May Rib World Champion)…Look out folks, I may start cooking for competitions soon! All in all, it was agreat weekend. Plus, Coleman (my assistant) won free entry for two into the Wayne County Altamaha River Catfish Tourney for next year….Maybe we can get a boat painted up for a Ross Sauce Sponsorship!!!

An exquisite addition to my pound cake!

Most of you are not aware that I have the best poundcake recipe in the world! I know it goes back at least as far as my great granny Andrews but assume it came from her mother or before. Today I added something to it that is probably as old as the recipe itself. I was lucky enough to pick up a sample of the more than 100 yr old sourdough starter from jeddediah’s house of sourdough( now in the Jackson hole l, Wy airport). Also, I was out of regular sugar so I did a half and half mix of light brown and turbinado. Also used butter milk instead of regular milk. I believe I have changed the world of poundcakes forever!!!!

SOAK-N-SEASON

It seems that many people don’t realize the versatility of Soak-N-Season (SNS) until they see how much I use it at a cooking demo. While it is very useful as a marinade, I use it primarily to baste everything I put on the grill. If I am grilling steak or wild game, I will also add either some butter or olive oil to the mix. We have used it on pork, chicken, beef, fish, elk, deer (white-tail and mule), and bison. I marinate zucchini and mushrooms in SNS and a little olive oil before I grill them. SNS is also amazing in a slow cooker/crock pot. Just add 1oz of SNS for every pound of meat. NO OTHER LIQUID OR SEASONING is usually needed. Give it a try!

Well folks, today is another historic day in the world of Great Scott Sauces. We have officially launched the new site and I now have “bloggability”…I hope to be able to use this to keep you up to date on the shows we are doing and the new things coming up from Great Scott Sauces.
